Primary Job Responsibilities: With more than 2.7 million registered users, MOTOR-TALK is the largest German language online community for car enthusiasts. Here you will find answers to nearly every car related question. Beyond our community we are launching new products like our car buying assistant motoragent and the free car database carfacto. Since October 2015, MOTOR-TALK belongs to mobile.de and is part of the eBay family. With about 70 employees located in our attractive office in Berlin-Friedrichshain, we are the heart of mobile.de’s New Business.We are growing the team responsible for the community platform and we are looking for you!

Job Requirements:

We are working in cross functional team by using agile methods. Backend- and Frontend Developers as well as Product Owners, Design and UX, Community Manager are working as a team to build successful products that excite our users and customers. Our teams have the full responsibility for development and operation of their services and apps, deciding about architecture, tech-stack and tools on their own, in close cooperation with the other teams. The foundation of our backend services is Java / Spring / Jetty and Scala/Play .

As Senior Software Engineer you will contribute to the backend development and provide strong support for the team.

Your tasks:

  • drive and execute the transformation from heavy, monolithic web and backend applications to a lightweight service-oriented architecture

  • write high quality code and ensure code quality by coaching junior colleagues

  • participate in cross-team know-how distribution

  • think with your colleagues about architecture decisions and help work them out

  • innovate technology, process and product with your team

  • continuously improve development work in all areas (coding, processes, tools, testing, etc.)

  • be a technical sparring partner to help the business create efficient and effective requirements

Your profile:

  • rich experience in software design

  • very good understanding of distributed services and APIs

  • excellent programming skills in Java 8 and Spring Framework (bonus: Scala/Play, reactive programming, microservices)

  • very solid understanding of web technologies and (non-)relational databases (bonus: Stripes, iBatis/MyBatis)

  • curiosity to learn new technologies (scala, playframework, elastic, etc.)

  • experienced in the maintenance and modernization of legacy software platforms

  • passion for agile software development, TDD and continuous delivery/deployment

  • high aspiration for quality balanced with a good sense of pragmatism

  • excellent communication skills in English (German is a big plus)
