We are looking for a talented and innovative Commercial Lawyer to join our EMEA Legal & Contracts team. The position is based in Amstelveen, the Netherlands but could potentially also be located in Diegem, Belgium Barcelona, Spain or Waldbronn, Germany.

You would support our business units and administrative functions in the Netherlands and Belgium to resolve or prevent problems or disputes and to protect Agilent assets, technology and management. You would develop, review and draft customized contract solutions and represent Agilent in contract negotiations, and other legal matters relating to customers and partners, in litigation and audits, and in all interactions with government agencies. You would coordinate legal matters handled by outside counsel. Your responsibilities would include local entity’s corporate matters, supporting legal compliance, drafting of documents, employment law advice, regulatory matters, risk management, copyrights and other intellectual property matters, as well as competition law counseling and data protection advice.

You would be reporting to the EMEA Managing Counsel and contributing to regional and other projects.


  • Overall legal support for different Business Units and Functions (HR, Finance, Workplace Services) in the Netherlands and Belgium;

  • Pro-active prevention and management of problems or disputes;

  • Review, drafting and negotiation of customer contracts,

  • Special responsibility for Contract, Anti-trust, and Labor law counseling in the Netherlands and Belgium;

  • Representation of the company in litigation, with government agencies, partners, customers, suppliers, as well as in negotiations on various legal issues;

  • Preliminary legal assessment of 3rd party IP rights, management of IP conflicts (on collaboration with Agilent IP Team);

  • Consulting with management in terms of legal compliance;

  • Regular assessment of the company’s compliance with existing law and effect of new laws on practices and policies effective in the company;

  • Identifing areas of legal risk;

  • Creation of a variety of legal tools and solutions uniquely suited to the current business situation of Agilent;

  • Legal training of employees and managers on various legal topics, and corporate policies and practices;

  • Prime country Legal resource for international management team;

  • Planning and coordination of Legal activities across internal and external resources.

  • Ability to resolve complex legal questions and problems based on sound technical expertise in local/ EU law, together with knowledge of other laws and regulations applicable to Agilent’s business;

  • Solutions focused, with ability to look beyond mere legal advice in rendering clear, concise and pragmatic risk-based recommendations

  • Ability to create a relationship as a trusted and dedicated partner to the local business team and management;

  • Education: Master/ University Degree in Law (Specializations: Corporate/ Commercial Law, Healthcare Law preferred );

  • Holding a current practising certificate as an attorney and entitled to live and practice in the Netherlands or Belgium

  • At least 6 years of experience related to: contract drafting and negotiations, commercial legal matters related to suppliers and distributors/agency, labor law and other compliance (including ARD), public tender rules, commercial/ corporate law and Healthcare Law;

  • Post-graduate studies and/or LLM is a plus

  • Dutch and English fluent, other language skills (e.g. French or German) would be an advantage.
