Our research branch in Germany is regularly offering interesting master or diploma theses and internship projects. Together with our research staff, you will have the opportunity to work on the exciting future of mobile applications and communications technologies. The research lab is part of a major Ericsson R&D; center, located in close vicinity of the historic city of Aachen, Germany, in the heart of Europe.

During your time at Ericsson, you will be assigned to a research project, aligned with your individual interests, background and skills. For Master theses, these projects are usually assigned for six to eight months. For internships, shorter assignments are possible. You will work together with experienced researchers and other students in a truly international team.

In our research lab in Aachen, we have a research group working in the field of Wireless Access Networks. The Corporate Research branch in Aachen covers key technologies of telecommunication networks and systems in the area of radio network architectures and protocols and multimedia delivery:

  • LTE Evolution
  • 5G
  • 802.11
  • Multimedia Delivery

You will execute a dedicated project directly related to the latest developments in these areas. This will provide you with excellent insights into key technologies of the telecommunications world. If you have a special area of expertise or already a proposal for a concrete research topic, we will consider this in the project definition.


  • You should be a student in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • You should have a strong interest in mobile communications or mobile applications, and have demonstrated excellence both in your education and in extracurricular activities.
  • Fluency in English is a prerequisite.
  • Computer and programming skills are essential for most of our projects, e.g. Matlab and /or Java knowledge is required.

An internship or a thesis project is a very good opportunity to work in a multi-national work environment where you are encouraged to find creative ways to succeed. It can also be the starting point for a career within Ericsson.
