The Health sciences Global Business Unit is a self contained business unit within Oracle that focuses entirely on the provision of software and services to the life sciences vertical market. What will be expected of you?

The successful candidate will be expected to generate new business leads by calling, visiting, and conference attendance within the health sciences industry vertical. In addition the successful candidates will be expected to have a clear understanding of the Oracle Health Sciences product portfolio, and have an understand of the clinical space, so as to be able to correctly identify and close opportunities for either individual or bundled offerings.

You will be expected to have an understanding of the clinical industry, whilst being aware of the challenges, expectations and business issues that people will face and need to address. You will be expected to link this understanding of the market place to the correct positioning of the products in the Health Sciences GBU.

Oracle’s Business Development Manager will be responsible for successfully achieving stated goals by increasing sales of Oracle’s Health and Life sciences software and services to Pharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies.


  • Maintain existing key accounts and develop new accounts/business opportunities

  • Sell entire product and service offerings of the Oracle Health Sciences Global Business Unit

  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with target accounts in the territory

  • Manage assigned accounts to generate both incremental and repeatable annual business

  • Initiate and manage RFI and RFP process and negotiate terms for all account programs and projects

  • Work collaboratively with the Services organisation and external partners to ensure a complete and professional delivery of Oracle’s software and service solutions.


  • Must demonstrate a sustained (5 years) and successful track record in software sales or services sales (ideally SaaS or Cloud based solutions) to Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Medical Device, and/or Clinical Research Organizations

  • Ideally this candidate should also exhibit a broad understanding of clinical trials process and/or safety domain (Pharmacovigilance, Signal Detection). Experience working with clinical trial project management, clinical operations, data management and/or pharmacovigilance in a diverse mixture of Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Medical Device companies is highly desired.

  • Demonstrated track record of success working with senior level management in a fast paced growth environment is necessary

  • Must enjoy a ‘hunter’ new business sales role as well as some account management.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the repeatable selling techniques and skills.

  • Presentation and strong interpersonal skills essential

  • Team ethos and a willingness to learn are critical components to the role.

  • The representative must expect extensive travel throughout the territory.

  • Ability to be self-managing and work autonomously is essential as this is predominantly a home-based role with international (EMEA wide) travel – up to 50% of the time

  • College degree or equivalent experience required

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Sells a subset of product or services directly or via partners to a large number of named accounts/non-named accounts/geographical territory (mainly Tier 3 accounts).

Primary job duty is to sell business applications software/solutions and related services to prospective and existing customers. Manage sales through forecasting, account resource allocation, account strategy, and planning. Develop solution proposals encompassing all aspects of the application. Participate in the development, presentation and sales of a value proposition. Negotiate pricing and contractual agreement to close the sale. Identify and develop strategic alignment with key third party influencers.

Job duties are varied and complex, needing independent judgment. May have project lead role. 5 years field sales experience with focus on large strategic accounts including applications sales experience. Highly developed selling, customer relations and negotiation skills. Successful sales track record. Oracle knowledge and/or knowledge of Oracle

  • s competitors. Interaction with C level players. Team player. Ability to penetrate accounts and meet with stakeholders within accounts. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Presentation skills. Travel may be needed. Bachelor degree or equivalent.
