Alion Science and Technology Senior System Engineer - AWSIM/GIAC Model Manager in Einseidlerhof, Germany

Responsibilities Under limited supervision, installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains complex modeling & simulation (M&S;) technology systems. Participates in a variety of Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) training events as a model manager, managing the execution and performance of the assigned models. Works directly with other senior technical personnel and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on complex projects related to the M&S; systems. Employs existing guidelines and instructions, guidance from higher-level engineers, experience, and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives. Assignments may require the development of improvements to current techniques and procedures. *Duties* Manage the Air Warfare Simulation (AWSIM) and Graphical Input Aggregate Control-GENIS Data Server (GIAC-GDS) including the installation, configuration, testing, execution, troubleshooting, and patching of the software. Maintain knowledge and familiarity with the Air Force Modeling and Simulation Training Toolkit (AFMSTT) suite of models but not limited to AWSIM and GIAC-GDS. Prepare, review, and maintain M&S; technical diagrams and documentation including configuration management documents, continuity plans, and training manuals. Support the Operational and Technical Planners in preparation for, and in execution of training events and demonstrations. Provide lessons learned. Provide information for accreditation documentation, including IPs, ports, and protocols, ensuring compliance for the Warrior Preparation Centers (WPC) networks regarding the AWSIM and GIAC-GDS software. Provide technical risk assessments to Exercise Planners and the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) for each training event based on the M&S; and Technical Engineering requirements. Recommend optimum technical implementation of the models for each training event. Identify, report potential problems, and recommend appropriate changes to correct deficiencies in the model. Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Manage other models, and perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Bachelors degree in Engineering or related scientific discipline plus a minimum of 5 years specialized experience. Must have demonstrated specialized experience in the area(s) of expertise required in the Task Order Performance Statement of Work In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years of applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrated command of engineering principles, methods, and techniques in area of expertise. Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software. Effective customer and organizational level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol for network connectivity of assigned models. Knowledge of Virtual Environments (VMware). Knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Active Secret clearance is required. Security+ CE certification and IA Management Level II certification (SEI 267) are required. Domain knowledge preferred, including but not limited to: Modeled objects include aircraft, air bases, theater ballistic missiles and launchers, surface to air missiles and launchers, air to air missiles, air to surface missiles and bombs, command and control (C2) platforms, short range air defense systems, ships, radar sites, and tactical data links Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is preferred.
