Groupon Accountant (m/w) in Berlin, Germany

Groupon is looking for a talented, highly motivated individual to join its accounting team as an Accountant in Berlin. This role will have dual responsibilities in general ledger accounting and accounts payable processing.

The primary responsibilities of this role include monthly calculation, booking and reconciliation of general ledger accounting and accounts payable processing. This role also requires management of intercompany settlement bookings. The role includes opportunities to automate existing processes and proactively improve efficiencies.

Key responsibilities include

  • Monitor intercompany positions to ensure proper balancing among entities

  • Prepare reporting and reconciliation cash aggregation activities

  • Play a key role in the month end close process by preparing journal entries and managing various asset and liability reconciliations

  • Assist Accounting Managers in daily accounting activities and month end closing procedures

  • Assist the AP team in daily accounting activities and month-end closing processes (journal uploads, account reconciliation preparation, etc.)

  • Review invoices for basic details required in order to make payments

  • Assist Management with Sarbanes Oxley procedures by monitoring compliance with internal

Controls

  • Process Travel & Expense claims

  • Account data entry and preparation for GL accountant review and approval

Key Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft products, especially Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with accounting software, preferably NetSuite

  • Strong organizational, analytical, communicational skills

  • Strong understanding of HGB

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop trusting and sustained relationships across geographic distance and diverse culture

  • Experience with audit, internal or external for the purposes of designing and executing reconciliations and identifying audit risks for the purpose of evaluating control procedures

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting department

  • Steuerfachangestellte/r or Bilanzbuchhalter or equivalent certification

  • Bachelor-/Master degree in economics preferred

  • Experience with audit, internal or external for the purposes of designing and executing reconciliations and identifying audit risks for the purpose of evaluating control procedures

  • Experience working in a centralized function with multiple legal entities

  • Fluent in English (orally/written and accounting and tax language)

  • Ability to learn and willingness to work to understand new concepts
